Terms of use
English translation of the Norwegian terms last updated 13 October 2026. Translation dated 15 October 2026.
This is an English translation provided for convenience. The Norwegian version (Brukervilkår) is the binding agreement, and if the two differ, the Norwegian text applies.
1. Parties and basis of the agreement
These terms govern the use of Søknadsbasen (the "Service") provided by Marcus Jenshaug, Holmestrandgaten 1a, 3112 Tønsberg (the "Provider", "we"). By creating an account you (the "Customer", "you") accept these terms and our privacy policy.
The Service is operated by Marcus Jenshaug as a private individual. No company has been established. When the turnover threshold is reached, the business will be registered and the terms updated accordingly.
2. About the Service
Søknadsbasen is a digital platform for building CVs, writing cover letters and managing job application processes. The Service is delivered via soknadsbasen.no with a free tier, Standard, and a paid Pro subscription (see sections 3 and 15).
You can also make your profile visible to employers and receive contact requests (see section 17), and use AI features (see section 16).
3. Prices and payment
- Standard: search for jobs, upload your own CV, write or upload cover letters, save jobs and use easy-apply. No payment is required.
- Monthly subscription: NOK 79 per month. Renews automatically every month until cancelled.
- One-off payment: NOK 299 for 6 months of access. Does not renew automatically.
All prices are stated in Norwegian kroner. The Provider is not registered for VAT, so the prices are exclusive of value added tax. If the Provider becomes VAT-registered, you will be notified and prices may be adjusted. Payment is handled by Stripe Payments Europe Ltd. We never store card details.
4. Free trial
If you choose the monthly subscription, you may get a 7-day free trial. The trial is for those who have not had Pro before, including as a gift or a one-off purchase. If you have had Pro, the first month is charged immediately. The terms of the trial:
- The payment method, card or Klarna, is registered at the start, but nothing is charged during the trial.
- When the trial ends, the payment method is charged NOK 79 automatically and the monthly subscription starts.
- You can cancel at any time during the trial, under Subscription → Manage subscription or by email (see section 6), without being charged.
5. Right of withdrawal
If you buy as a consumer, you may withdraw from the agreement within 14 days without giving any reason (the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act, angrerettloven, sections 20 and 21). The withdrawal period ends 14 days after the day the agreement was entered into:
- Monthly subscription: the day you start the subscription, also when it begins with a free trial. The withdrawal period and the trial are two different things. You can both cancel the trial without being charged (section 4) and withdraw from the subscription within 14 days.
- 6 months, AI credits and the purchase of a single CV or a single cover letter: the day you buy.
You withdraw by notifying us before the period ends. The easiest way is the form at soknadsbasen.no/en/withdrawal: you then get a receipt by email right away. There you can also download the standard form as a PDF, fill it in and send it to us. You can also write an email to marcus@jenshaug.no or a letter to the address in section 19. You do not need to use any of the forms. It is enough that you send the notice before the period ends.
When you withdraw, we refund everything you have paid for the agreement, without undue delay and no later than 14 days after we received your notice. We use the same means of payment that you used, unless we expressly agree otherwise, and you pay no fee for the refund (section 24).
If you have asked for the service to start before the withdrawal period is over, you pay for what you have received up to the time you notified us that you withdraw, in proportion to the whole agreement (section 26 first paragraph). For the subscription and the 6 months this is counted per day of paid access, and days in a free trial cost nothing. For AI credits it is counted from how many of the purchased credits you have used. You ask for the service to start right away by ticking the box before the purchase. If the service has been fully delivered before you withdraw, for example because you have used all the AI credits you bought, you no longer have a right of withdrawal (section 22 letter c).
A rewritten CV or a cover letter that you buy without an account is delivered to you as a PDF by email, and you can download it from the link in the email. This is digital content that is created and delivered right away. The right of withdrawal then lapses once delivery has begun, but only if, before paying, you have expressly consented to delivery beginning before the withdrawal period is over, have acknowledged that you thereby lose the right of withdrawal, and have received confirmation of this from us (section 22 letter n). If any of this is missing, you have the ordinary right of withdrawal and do not pay for what has been delivered (section 26 second paragraph letter c).
If you buy a rewritten CV in the app, the CV is rewritten in the CV builder, and you can download this CV as a PDF without a watermark, also after you have edited it. This is a service, not just a file. You ask for it to start right away by ticking the box before the purchase, and if you withdraw within 14 days, you pay for what has been delivered up to the time you notified us (section 26 first paragraph).
Once you have withdrawn, we close the access you bought, and a subscription charges nothing more. What you have written and uploaded yourself is still yours, and the account moves to Standard.
6. Cancellation
- Monthly: you can cancel at any time, either in the customer portal under Subscription in the app (/app/billing) or by email to marcus@jenshaug.no. You choose how, and you do not need to give a reason. If you cancel by email, we confirm the cancellation by email. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you are not charged again.
- One-off payment (6 months): does not renew and needs no cancellation. If you already have Pro through a subscription, an earlier purchase or a gift, the 6 months are added after the access you have. If you have an ongoing monthly subscription, it ends at the end of the current period, so you do not pay for both. If the payment for the subscription has failed, it ends immediately.
- We may terminate the subscription with 14 days' written notice in the event of a material breach of the terms or misuse of the Service.
7. The Customer's obligations
The Customer undertakes to:
- provide correct and up-to-date contact information,
- keep login details confidential,
- not share the account with others,
- not upload or store unlawful, offensive or copyright-protected content without the right to do so,
- not attempt to circumvent technical security mechanisms, reverse engineer the code or overload the Service.
8. Ownership of data and content
You own all content you enter into the Service (CVs, cover letters, notes, job application data). We claim no rights beyond what is strictly necessary to deliver the Service.
You can download your data at any time as a PDF or in a machine-readable format. If you delete your account, the account, your content and your files are deleted immediately. The backups keep the seven most recent daily copies, so what you have deleted may remain in a backup for up to seven days. Some things remain, including invoicing data, withdrawal notices and the log of which employers have viewed, contacted or unlocked your profile. The privacy policy, sections 3 and 4, says what and for how long.
9. Intellectual property rights
The Provider owns all rights to the Service itself, including source code, design, templates and documentation. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable right of use for as long as the subscription is active.
10. Availability and maintenance
We aim for 99.5 % uptime, but give no guarantee. Planned maintenance is announced in advance where possible. In the event of downtime exceeding 24 consecutive hours, the Customer may claim proportional compensation corresponding to the subscription price for the period.
11. Defects, complaints and liability
If something is wrong with the Service or with something you have bought, let us know by email at marcus@jenshaug.no. We shall deliver what we have agreed. If you are a consumer, you have the rights in the Norwegian Digital Services Act (digitalytelsesloven) when something is wrong: among other things, you can demand that we correct the defect, or claim a price reduction, termination or compensation (section 19). The Act cannot be derogated from to your detriment (section 3), and nothing in these terms limits those rights.
Beyond what the law gives you, we are not liable for:
- indirect loss or consequential damage (lost earnings, lost job opportunities, business interruption),
- loss of data caused by the Customer's own actions,
- content or services delivered by third parties (e.g. Stripe, Anthropic and Resend).
The total liability is limited to the amount the Customer has paid in the 6 months preceding the claim. The limitations of liability do not apply in cases of gross negligence or intent, and not where they would conflict with law that cannot be derogated from to the detriment of a consumer.
12. Force majeure
The Provider is not liable for delays or failure to perform caused by force majeure, including third-party infrastructure failure, cyber attacks, pandemics, strikes or orders from public authorities.
13. Changes to the terms
We may update these terms. Material changes are announced by email and in the Service at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the change is considered acceptance. If you do not accept the changes, you may cancel the subscription.
14. Governing law and venue
The terms are governed by Norwegian law. Disputes are sought resolved amicably. If this fails, the venue is the Provider's home court, Vestfold tingrett (Vestfold District Court). If you are a consumer, this agreement on venue does not apply to you (the Norwegian Dispute Act, tvisteloven, section 4-6 third paragraph).
If you are a consumer and we cannot agree, you can bring the matter to the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet), which mediates between consumers and businesses (forbrukertilsynet.no/tvistelosning). If the matter concerns the right of withdrawal and mediation does not succeed, it can be brought before the Consumer Disputes Commission (Forbrukerklageutvalget, forbrukertilsynet.no/forbrukerklageutvalget). The Norwegian Consumer Council (Forbrukerrådet) has a complaints guide with advice on how to proceed (forbrukerradet.no/klageguide).
15. Standard and Pro
Søknadsbasen is offered with a free tier, Standard, and a paid Pro subscription.
- Standard: search for jobs, upload your own CV, write or upload cover letters, save jobs and use easy-apply.
- Pro: CV builder, AI features and match scoring, in addition to everything in the free tier. Prices follow from section 3.
Logged-in use without an active Pro subscription gives the Standard tier. Moving to Pro is a separate, active choice.
16. AI features and AI credits
The Pro subscription includes a number of AI credits per month, and a smaller amount during the trial, as shown in the subscription. Most things cost one credit each time you use them, for example tailoring a CV or writing a cover letter. Some features cost more. What each feature costs is stated on the pricing page, under "What are AI credits and how many do I get?". Mechanical text extraction, such as reading in a CV or a job ad, is free and uses no credits.
AI-generated text is an aid. You are responsible for checking and standing behind the final content you send. When you use an AI feature, the text in question is sent to Anthropic Ireland, Limited, which stores it in the USA. Anthropic deletes the text as a rule within 30 days. If it is flagged for a breach of Anthropic's usage policies, it may be stored for up to two years, and it may be stored longer when the law requires it. The text is not used to train AI models, and the transfer is based on the EU standard contractual clauses. See the privacy policy, sections 4 and 6.
17. Visible profile for employers
You can choose to make your profile visible to employers searching for candidates. You control the visibility yourself: hidden, anonymous (without name) or open. You can also enable automatic approval of contact requests, or approve each request manually.
Visibility beyond hidden requires that you give explicit consent. If we change the terms for visibility, we may ask for renewed consent. You can withdraw the consent or hide the profile at any time, and you can delete the candidate profile yourself.
18. Easy-apply and submitted applications
When you send an application via easy-apply, a fixed snapshot of your CV is created and shared with the employer. Later changes to your profile do not change an application that has already been sent. The employer becomes an independent data controller for the application it receives, cf. the privacy policy and the employer's data processing agreement.
