Senior Software Engineer, DevEx

About Six Robotics

At Six Robotics, we build intelligent software that gives Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) the ability to collaborate, adapt on the fly, and execute missions that were previously impossible. From our base in Oslo, our 90+ experts in defence, software, and AI develop our flagship autonomy and swarm platform used by both government and industry. In close partnership with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), we move fast from concept to live deployment, often in the field alongside end users.

We work with advanced hardware and software, a modern tech stack, and missions that demand both technical mastery and operational discipline. Everyone is close to the action, from deep technical problem-solving to field operations. We move fast and value clarity, integrity, and teamwork in everything we do.

At Six Robotics, every person executes with precision, adapts to changing conditions, and strengthens the team. Getting in is hard, and you’ll be challenged every day. But if you have the skill, the discipline, and the drive to push your limits and always be sharpening your blade, you’ll find no better place to deliver real-world impact while collaborating and learning from the best in the field.

About The Role

At Six Robotics, we know that achieving our mission requires more than great engineers; it requires an exceptional engineering environment. You will be part of Team Factory, who builds the internal infrastructure and tooling that engineering depends on. Factory is the backbone of how we develop, validate, and ship our autonomous systems.

The factory is built just as much for where we are going, in addition to where we are. Most engineers have watched a company make early decisions that looked fine at the time and later turned slow, fragile, or impossible to undo. We are building our software factory so that doesn't happen to us. Customer needs, operations, and our products will keep changing, and how fast we can adapt is a crucial advantage. The systems and standards you build are what let Six Robotics keep evolving without trading away speed, quality, or reliability as we scale.

Your customer is engineering. You will build the tooling, automation, internal platforms, and on-premise infrastructure that a growing number of engineers depend on every day. Our engineering platform is built on a range of proven, industry-standard technologies, with Python serving as the common layer that ties much of the system together.

You will build on a solid foundation and strengthen it deliberately, ahead of the continuous scaling process we are on. We care about robust engineering defaults: tools that make good practice the easy path, surface problems early, and hold up as the organization grows.

What You Will Do

You will spend most of your time building and improving the systems and tools engineers use to develop, test, and ship.

• Build and maintain the internal platform, tooling, and automation that the engineering teams rely on
• Improve developer experience across engineering: faster feedback, smoother workflows, and fewer ways to get things wrong
• Develop services, workflows, and automation in Python, using it as the common layer that ties together modern engineering infrastructure and frameworks (e.g. Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Docker, and related tooling).
• Set sensible engineering defaults and make them easy to adopt across teams
• Work directly with engineers to find where they lose time or hit friction
• Ensure the engineering platform remains reliable, scalable, and maintainable as the organization and development tempo grow

What we are looking for

You might come from backend, from data engineering, or from platform and DevOps/DevEx, or something else entirely. What matters is that you enjoy writing robust code and you get why that matters here.

Factory is where the engineering organization's pace and quality come from. The tooling you build either helps engineers move fast and trust their results, or it quietly holds everyone back. That is the appeal of this team: a small, well-built thing here changes how the whole company performs.

We believe the right candidate brings

• Strong software engineering fundamentals, with proficiency in Python or another language. Most importantly, you need to be motivated to work in Python
• Experience building tooling, platforms, or infrastructure that other engineers use, and an interest in developer experience
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD (GitHub Actions or GitLab) and knowledge of Docker
• A pragmatic mindset: you build systems that are reliable, understandable, and maintainable over time
• Clear technical communication and the ability to treat engineers as your users
• A strong sense of responsibility for the quality and reliability of what the team builds

Nice to have:

• Experience working in on-prem environments
• Experience from a software-to-hardware product environment
• Experience mentoring engineers or setting technical direction, and interest in a team lead role
• A track record of helping shape how a team works in its early days, not just contributing to an established one

Why You Should Join

At Six Robotics, we're not just building software - we're redefining how unmanned systems operate in the real world. If you're driven by meaningful problems, technical depth, and the chance to shape something from the ground up, you'll find your place here.

• Work on problems that matterOur technology helps unlock smarter, safer, and more adaptable UAV operations in defense and industry, solving real challenges with direct, tangible impact.
• Lead the shift in a hardware-dominated spaceWe're bringing modern AI, autonomy, and scalable software into a field that's long relied on rigid, pre-programmed systems, to change how UAVs are designed, deployed, and managed.
• Build from zero, shape the futureJoin early and help define the core systems, tools, and culture of a company that’s still being built - where your ideas, code, and decisions will have a lasting influence.
• Work with purpose, supported by great benefits

You'll be part of a mission-driven team that values clarity, integrity, and collaboration, offering competitive pay, equity potential, strong insurance and pension plans, and ongoing learning opportunities.

Our Recruitment Process

We aim to keep our process short and sweet, but also thorough. As a small team, every hire matters, and we can’t afford to get this one wrong.

Here is what to expect:

1. Screening interview with one of our recruiters to get to know you better (30 min)
2. Meet & Greet with someone from the team to learn more about us (60 min)
3. Take-home case assignment, to be solved in your own time, followed by a live coding session and an in-depth interview on the case and the specifics of the role (90 min)
4. Final interview with our CTO and Head of People (45 min)
5. Reference check followed by an offer if everything goes well

Our Commitment to Inclusion

At Six Robotics, we are committed to creating a workplace built on respect, integrity, and collaboration. We value different perspectives and experiences, and we believe that diversity within our team strengthens both our work and our culture. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and help us build technology that makes a real impact.

All employees at Six Robotics are required to undergo a security clearance due to our close collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces. While prior clearance is not necessary, the clearance process will be initiated as part of onboarding.
